Vermicomposting in Silver Oak Plantation Areas for Sustainable Waste Management and Enhanced Livelihood: A Case Study of Kolli Hills, Tamil Nadu, India

Silver Oak plantation on farmlands growing coffee and black pepper has gained importance in recent times the areas surrounding Kolli hills Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu, India. The trees shed significant quantities dry leaves during summer season which local Malayali tribal community burns and/or ground. current case study is based an experiment vermicomposting using leaf litter, cow dung earthworms. results show that joint production manure from agroforestry practices option self-sufficiency for rural communities potential a business model. Moreover, this ensures environmental sustainability by avoiding green-house gas emissions are caused practice burning leaving mulch to rot. present paper attempts develop sustainable model region can offer triple solutions encompassing organic production, quality improvement livelihood opportunity enhancement. Based field surveys physiochemical experiments Perungiraipatti village hills, presents with specifications nutritional quality, economic development.
